Our Story

It Started With Questions

Protect Our Way of Life Warren County LLC began with something simple: community members asking questions about a major development proposed for our county.

As residents learned more about the proposed data center project in the Warrenton area, concerns began to grow—not only about the project itself, but about the process surrounding it.

Residents wanted information. They wanted to understand what was being proposed, how decisions were being made, whether established codes and procedures were being followed, and what the project could mean for the people who live and work here.

Most importantly, they wanted transparency.

From Concern to Action

What began as individual concerns quickly became a shared effort among neighbors and community members.

We started attending meetings, reviewing documents, asking questions, researching applicable codes and procedures, and working to better understand the decisions being made on behalf of our community.

Along the way, we became increasingly concerned about what we believed was a lack of transparency surrounding the project and questions about whether established requirements and procedures were being consistently followed.

We realized this was about something larger than one development.

It was about how decisions affecting our communities are made.

Protecting More Than Property

“Protect Our Way of Life” means different things to different people.

For some, it means protecting rural land and open spaces. For others, it means protecting a neighborhood, a family home, a farm, a small business, or simply the ability to enjoy the place they chose to call home.

We believe those interests deserve consideration regardless of whether someone lives in the county, inside a city, on hundreds of acres, or on a small residential lot.

Protecting our way of life isn’t about resisting every change.

It’s about expecting change to happen responsibly, lawfully, transparently, and with appropriate consideration for the people who will live with its consequences.

Accountability Matters

Through our experience with the data center project, another part of our mission became increasingly important: government accountability.

Local government has tremendous influence over our communities. Decisions involving development, zoning, infrastructure, public resources, and land use can affect residents for generations.

We believe public officials should conduct the people’s business with:

Ethics. Integrity. Transparency. Honesty.

Citizens should be able to ask questions.

Public records should be accessible as required by law.

Established procedures should matter.

And residents should have a meaningful opportunity to understand and participate in decisions affecting their communities.

These principles should not depend upon which project is being considered, which elected officials hold office, or who happens to agree with a particular decision.

They should apply to everyone.

Why We Formed an LLC

Eventually, we concluded that asking questions and raising concerns might not be enough.

As the data center project continued, it became apparent to our founding members that formal legal action might be necessary to address our concerns and protect the interests of the community.

Protect Our Way of Life Warren County LLC was formed to give our efforts an organized structure and provide a vehicle through which we could pursue advocacy, education, fundraising, and, when necessary, legal action.

We did not take that decision lightly.

Legal action should not be the first tool used to resolve disagreements with government. But when significant questions cannot otherwise be resolved, citizens have the right to use the lawful processes available to them.

Where We Go From Here

The data center brought us together, but our mission does not have to end with one project.

Our experience demonstrated how important it is for residents to pay attention, participate in local government, ask informed questions, and hold decision-makers accountable.

We want to help create a community where residents have access to information, understand what is happening in their government, and know how to make their voices heard.

That means continuing to research.

Continuing to ask questions.

Continuing to provide information.

Continuing to advocate for transparency and accountability.

And, when necessary, standing together to protect our community.

This Is Our Community

Our founding members are Warren County residents, but the principles behind our organization are not limited by county or city boundaries.

Everyone deserves a voice in the future of the place they call home.

Whether you have lived here your entire life or recently made this community your home, whether you live in the city or the county, we invite you to learn more, ask questions, participate, and stand with your neighbors.

Because protecting our way of life starts with people willing to protect it together.
